We recently did an article on the "Memphisippi Tour"; a potential collaboration of underground artist from Memphis, Tennese, and Mississippi. Therefore, we wanted to dig further in the Southern hiphop culture to see what they had to offer.

"New Jacks" was a hip hop event held at Morning Bell Record Shop in Jackson, Mississippi. This event allowed 5 rising artists to perform and show their local peers what they had to offer. T$G, Tira D, D.O.L.O, Renee Lee, and Jaxx City were the artists hand picked by its host known as 5th Child. DJ Ray was on what hip hop like to call the 1s & 2s. 5th Child stated:

"The main mission of the show was to introduce some new faces to Jackson's indie hip hop scene. All of the artist were hand picked because they had completed full projects and were really lyrical. None of them were your average, run-of-the-mill trap rappers. They had different styles and they were all unique in their presentation."

We had our own Corinthian Washington on the set for photography and questioning. He stated:

"The show was fun and full of energy. These artists may be seen in the near future at shows and festivals near you. I hope competetion is ready."

Below are photos of the artists that performed along with extras. You must check them out. No excuses.

We interviewed the rising indie pop artist known as Avalon Omega. A Los Angeles native that has been doing music for 10 years and counting. After listening to her electronica and chillwave sounds, our goal was to get inside the mind of Avalon Omega to learn a little about her musical world.

We asked Avalon where did she find inspiration in her music? She replied "nature". That's not hard to figure out if you were to listen to the sounds of her single entiled "Forever Young". Avalon Omega then replied that her music choice for listening is "everything". We would assume that she likes listening and experimenting with many genres of music to create that unique sound of her own, which seperates her from others in the mainstream or whats trending today.

Avalon Omega plans on releasing new music, videos, and doing tours in the future. Dope-Shish is looking forward to this. When we listen to her music, we understand a sense of passion and ambition. Therefore, we would hope to see success for this rising indie beauty. Please click the photo below and her desired music and social networking links. No excuses.

The biggest musical heritage of the South was developed by African Americans in the 20th century. African Americans would use unique musical techniques to subject religion, fun, or even hardhips. Some of these southern born genres known as southern gospel, blues, and jazz are the biggest influences on what we call hip hop.

Hip hop is a broad conglomerate of artistic forms that is known to be originated in the South Bronx amongst black and Latino youth during the 1970s in New York City. It follows in the footsteps of earlier Southern African American musical genres like bluesjazz, and ragtime. It later spreaded to California, Illinois, and other countries like London and Japan. Because of the cultural impact that musicans such as BB King, Louis Armstrong, and Scott Joplin made on these larger cities, hip hop will always be in the heart of the South.

The Memphissippi Tour was an event where many independent hip hop artists made it essential to represent what Memphis, Tennesse and Mississippi should be known for: Southern Hiphop. Mississippi artists like Big Sant (Big Krit's hypeman) and Kamikaze played a role in presenting what Dope-Shish like to call a distinctive "lyrical-spirtual" sound: high energy lyrics and classic samples that gives a history lesson on African American Southern hardships. Mississippi artists like Lil Chris Manne, Mike Hustle and Memphis artist Lurell Low are also among other artists that performed. They all experimented with many modern forms of hip hop and r&b that many hip hop enthuasists will appreciate. Collaborating two southern places like this is what hip hop needs. Hopefully one day in the future hip hop can collab a tour with a southern state and a larger city like New York or Los Angeles. Events like that would play a major role in bringing the cultures together. Until then, Dope-Shish hopes to be at the next Memphissippi Tour with more cameras and microphones. No excuses.

Straight from the tomb of hip hop better known as Brooklyn, New York, the young unique trio known as Eramatics are rising to be Brooklyn's next big thing. TahJmall, Ziiion, and Lexington are the three teenagers that make up the dope trio. Their style seems to be highly influenced by the early 90s, better known as the "Golden Age" of hip hop. If you was to listen to their latest hits such as Winners or $inners or L.A.B., you can hear the "old school-jazzy-Tribe Called Quest" vibrant impact. They seem to use positive, but some hardcore elements that takes its listeners back in time as far as Who Got Da Props. If focusing on L.A.B. (Lifes a Bitch), it aint hard to tell that these young lyricists know that sampling from the Queensbridge greatest album known as Illmatic is something that will catch the ears of real hip hop enthusiasts. But will they be the new leaders of the Beastcoast? We will see what happens when their next untitled debut project releases in the second quarter of 2014. In the meantime, you can check out the latest hit entitled "L.A.B." in the Youtube video below. No excuses.
